Huebrix & Socioball by Yellow Monkey Studios Free and Free

iPhone Screenshot 1   iPhone Screenshot 3
Huebrix came out in 2012 but was recently listed as newly free on Apps Gone Free. It's a puzzle app game where the objective is to fill the grid with ribbons.
The 2 diagrams above show the basic premise.  However, it gets very sophisticated.

Very Interesting:
1. Plus and minus signs: A plus sign may have a 4 on it.  That means, if your purple ribbon goes over it, its length will increase by that amount.

2. The X.  A ribbon can land on it, but that's where it must end.  Some levels have an equal number of X's as ribbons. But not all.

3.The side portals: They act like wormholes, but they're always on the outer edges of the puzzles.

There are 400 levels, which is way too many.  At the moment, I've solved about 100 levels at various levels of difficulty, including 'insane'.

iPhone Screenshot 1
The object in Socioball is to place various tiles onto the board so that the blue ball will get to the blue square.
iPhone Screenshot 2
The various tiles include orange curves, a high wall, small trampoline, big trampoline, red button that activates the red block, and the red block.
iPhone Screenshot 3
There are about 61 levels by my count and they can get tricky. But many are obviously too simple. For example, a level may have only 3 blank spaces in the grid. Which means, without even thinking, there are 6 permutations.

At the moment, I've solved about 40 levels.

Kerflux by Oren Kurtz and Tara Bellafiore

Kerflux is a very unique puzzle app game.  As far as we know, it's the only puzzle that utilizes waves.
The object is to manipulate the waves on the left to get the right-most wave to line up against its shadow perfectly. The early levels require the solver to manipulate just two waves. Then 3 waves. Finally, 4 waves.
Many of the levels take just a few seconds to solve because once you get the knack, they're all pretty much the same.  There are 100 levels and I solved them all yesterday in about 2 hours. No level took more than 5 minutes.
After level 13, you get the above image, which I positively love. I paid $.99. I would like to see other puzzle apps have something similar. Maybe at the very end.

More thoughts
1. Apparently, if you're stuck, the background music will somehow give guidance.  Loyal Blog Followers know that I always turn off all music and sound effects for all puzzle apps because they're often annoying and use up valuable battery life.

2. As I mentioned, all the levels are pretty much the same. I can't say: Level 83 was particularly ingenious. Nor can I say that I had an 'Aha' moment.

3. Still, I did spend the time to complete all the levels - on the same day no less. I did like it.

Blicke by Mauricio Tollin $.99

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Mauricio Tollin recently contacted me about his new puzzle app game Blicke.
   Blicke- screenshot       Blicke- screenshot
It's one of those 'slide your man until it hits a wall' type games.  The objective is to get the colored blocks to their targets.

There are 72 levels and yes, a bunch of them are easy. However, a lot of them are quite challenging and very well designed. I'm impressed.

High praise for this game: I solved all the levels.

Cube Escape: Birthday By LoyaltyGame B.V. Free!

iPhone Screenshot 1
The team at Rustylake.com keeps producing creepy twisted room adventures.
iPhone Screenshot 2
This is the 7th game of theirs that I've played.  At the moment, they have 9 games and are working on a 10th.
iPhone Screenshot 3
In all their games, there really is no 'escape this room' objective.  Rather, solve some puzzles in the room and find out what happened or what will happen.
iPhone Screenshot 4
The main character in each game is You.  Your past/present has a history of mental illness, murder and strange hallucinations.
iPhone Screenshot 5
I cruised through Cube Escape: Birthday pretty quickly.  Except for one element. I confess that I looked through Rusty Lake's walkthrough on youtube for that one tiny thing.  Then I finished the game within 5 minutes.

If you haven't played any of their games, start with Cube Escape: Arles.

Hocus by Yunus Ayyildiz Free this week!

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Yunus Ayyildiz's Hocus has been downloaded over 1,000,000 times. Normally, it's $.99, so he's made himself a small fortune.  Good for him. (If only other great puzzle apps would have such success.)

The objective is to roll the red cube around the impossible shape to get to the exit

There are 89 levels and I've done 60 in the past 2 days. They go pretty fast but I've gotten stuck in endless loops.

Also, this puzzle app game allows you to create your own shapes for others to solve.

Update 8/14/16: I finished all 89 levels and even created 2 of my own levels.

Yunus's other game Voi coincidentally, reviewed this same week.

Voi by Yunus Ayyildiz $.99

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Voi comes from Yunus Ayyildiz.  The object is to place the black shapes next to each other and/or on top of each other to match the image at the top.

When pieces overlap, a white region is formed.  There are 66 levels and at the moment I've done about 50 of them.

I've never been a big fan of tangrams. However, Voi is a very cool version of tangrams.  Great job Yunus!

Arrow Domino by Yu Ho Kim Free

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Arrow Domino is actually a maze puzzle game app.  The object is to tap on one of the arrows within the grid and somehow get all the arrows to tumble down, like a string of dominos lined up.  Why is this game classified as a maze? Because the essential questions are where does it need to start and where will it exit?

Some arrows: topple 2 neighbors or 4 neighbors.

Some arrows: skip its neighbor.

There are 108 levels and they're not hard. I did them all relatively quickly.

Imago - Transformative Puzzle Game by Arkadium Free

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2

Imago - Transformative Puzzle Game is a point scoring puzzle app game.  The object is to drag colored squares & rectangles next to each other so they will align and score points. Scoring points is not hard.  The key is to score them exponentially, which is pretty cool, once you get the hang of it.

I was stumped on each level.  The last level - 20,000,000 is needed.  I had gotten 17,000,000 then couldn't get past 5,000,000 for another 10 attempts.  Finally, I passed it with160,000,000.

There are only 5 levels. After you have solved them all, you can play a daily puzzle which has the opposite goal: you must decrease your score.

Interesting concept.  Very good graphics.  Lots of players on the Leaderboard.  Hey, it's also free.

"klocki" By Maciej Targoni $.99

iPhone Screenshot 1
Multiple Loyal Blog Followers pointed this game out to me. Do you remember the game Hook by Maciej Targoni.  Maciej is back with a new game "klocki".
iPhone Screenshot 2
There are no instructions in the game. You have to figure out the rules yourself. However, in the description on the App Store, 'Your goal is to connect different types of lines together.'
iPhone Screenshot 3
This is done by swapping. Or rotating. I cruised through the first batch very quickly and thought it might be too easy. They get more interesting.
iPhone Screenshot 4
There are 82 levels and I solved them all.

A few thoughts
1. The levels with the black squares and white dots - brilliant and new concept.
2. If you've done other puzzle that involve pipe swiveling, you'll get the idea of things. But many levels involve swapping tiles.  Look at the last image: those levers rotate the entire faces from the cube. Complicated.
3. Like the game Hook, "klocki" does not have ultra hard levels. This is the type of puzzle that will lure in non-puzzlers.

Tilt: Quill's Quandry By Noah Rosenfield $2.99

logo  iPhone Screenshot 1
Loyal Blog Follower Joel from Germany told me about Tilt: Quill's Quandary. The critter in the images is a hedgehog, named Captain Quill, and he's dropped his hat down the hatch of his ship. Of course.
iPhone Screenshot 2  iPhone Screenshot 3
The object is to tilt the shapes forward/back and right/left to somehow get the hedgehog down the hole. Important: if you tilt your ipad slightly, then only Captain Quill will slide around. If you tilt it more, all the tiles tilt too.
iPhone Screenshot 5
On many levels, Captain Quill must first retrieve the key, which also tilts around the deck.

Some thoughts:
1. Very unique concept. Positively love this.
2. I was definitely stumped on some of the easier levels like 18 or so. Every group of 10 puzzles: there's usually 2 that I struggled on.
3. There are 100 levels, which is ideal. Why don't other puzzle app developers realize this?
4. At the moment I've done 72 levels.

Blocks and Tiles

iPhone Screenshot 1
Blocks and Tiles looks a lot like the rolling cube puzzle Bloxorz. I almost didn't download it.
iPhone Screenshot 4
Then I read the description and the authors indicated that it takes Bloxorz to the next level. So it was nice to see that they paid tribute to the original concept.
iPhone Screenshot 5
I'm not really sure what the other features are. I did the 20 free levels pretty quickly.  The additional 39 levels I didn't pay for.  If you have played them, please add to this description in the comments section below.

Three Buttons By Guo Bo

iPhone Screenshot 2
Three Buttons comes from Guo Bo.  It's similar to 100 Floors which came out a few years ago.
iPhone Screenshot 3
The objective is to light up each button at the same time.  There are 49 levels and each one is completely different.
Img
I solved levels 7, 8 & 9 with mostly guessing.

Move on Green by Oleg Antipov

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Move on Green is one of those 'sticky' puzzle app games.  The object is to move Your Man, the smiley square, to gather and drag the other green squares onto to the targets.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 5
The white squares can be moved.
The arrows: once you're on them, you must go in that direction.
These are pretty tough.  There are 56 levels and at the moment I've done 22.
