Fanorona: ancient abstract game for iphone, ipad

Fanorona comes from Madagscar. It's very hard to describe.  But I wonder, does anybody play abstract strategy games anymore? Chess has faded. And who plays checkers or backgammon?

You can play against the computer. After 2 or 3 times, the rules will make sense.

    Quite the opposite. Chess, go and modern board games have more and more popularity.

    I think you're right about the modern board games. Hundreds are invented every year. (I sometimes play-test them for Games Magazine.) But I don't see people playing chess as much. I could be wrong.
