Blocks and Tiles

iPhone Screenshot 1
Blocks and Tiles looks a lot like the rolling cube puzzle Bloxorz. I almost didn't download it.
iPhone Screenshot 4
Then I read the description and the authors indicated that it takes Bloxorz to the next level. So it was nice to see that they paid tribute to the original concept.

I'm not really sure what the other features are. I did the 20 free levels pretty quickly.  The additional 39 levels I didn't pay for.  If you have played them, please add to this description in the comments section below.

Three Buttons By Guo Bo

iPhone Screenshot 2
Three Buttons comes from Guo Bo.  It's similar to 100 Floors which came out a few years ago.
iPhone Screenshot 3
The objective is to light up each button at the same time.  There are 49 levels and each one is completely different.

I solved levels 7, 8 & 9 with mostly guessing.

Move on Green by Oleg Antipov

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Move on Green is one of those 'sticky' puzzle app games.  The object is to move Your Man, the smiley square, to gather and drag the other green squares onto to the targets.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 5
The white squares can be moved.
The arrows: once you're on them, you must go in that direction.
These are pretty tough.  There are 56 levels and at the moment I've done 22.

Ichi-Ni

iPhone Screenshot 1  iPhone Screenshot 2
Loyal Blog Follower Joel from Germany alerted me about Ichi-Ni. It's another topology puzzle app game. The object is to start at one of the brownish squares, traverse over all of the green squares once, and end at the other brownish square.
iPhone Screenshot 3  iPhone Screenshot 4
We've seen this type too many times to count.
What's different?
1. Some of the green squares have to be crossed 2 or even 3 times. Actually, we've seen this before.
2. Purple wormholes. We've seen this too.
3. Yellow squares. When passing over a yellow square, it will turn green and move to a new spot. This we've never seen before!
4. Starting at level 57, some green squares turn black temporarily, so you have to time your path.
5. Starting at level 65, the stripped green squares travel along an invisible track.

I thought level 55 was pretty tough. After about 10 attempts, I had my 'aha' moment.

Unmind - Match Puzzle Game by Zebu

  iPhone 屏幕快照 1
Unmind - Match Puzzle Game is one of those 'all the men move together' type puzzles where the objective is to get the men to their targets.  Yawn I thought.
iPhone 屏幕快照 2  iPhone 屏幕快照 3
Then I started playing the game.  What's different is that if a ball gets into the wrong target - game over.

The 4x4 grid sizes: there are 200 levels.  Obviously these are the easiest....but I've suffered many deaths. At the moment, I've done about 75 levels.

There are 200 more levels in the 5x5 series.  Haven't touched them.

In the 6x6 series, also 200, I've done  102.  Yes, they're tough.

Then there's the 'filled 4x4' which is very interesting.  And hard! See the last image for an example of that.
There should be a leaderboard to see who else is playing.  Very, very good game.

Similar games (this list is incomplete):

Movez  Pretty much the same as Block Mania but it has 1680 levels. I've solved 592 of them. That's probably enough.
Frozen Ice Cubes  What's different: there's a point of 'no return'.
Escapology, reviewed by Nicola Salmoria. He told me about this game ages ago. I played it and enjoyed it, but never blogged about it.
Block Mania Similar to Movez
Move Puzzle - A Funny Strategy Game, Matching Tiles Within Finite Moves
Zink
Vubu What's different: the vubu men have different powers. Very sophisticated, very intelligent. Possibly the very best in this genre.

Chain Linker by Pavel Lavrentev

Снимок экрана iPhone 1
Chain Linker has been on my mind for at least 4 or 5 months.
Снимок экрана iPhone 3
The object is to place tools along the path that will affect the red & blue dots to get to their rectangular targets in the correct order.
Снимок экрана iPhone 4
The puzzle get pretty complicated. There are splits, swappers and other tools.

There are 50 levels and I've done only 17.  Chain Linker deserves more attention as a pure puzzler. The graphics could be better though.

Mechanical Puzzles

It's been a long time since I've tried any mechanical puzzles.  I bought these almost a year ago, and only now have gotten around to them.  The first one is the Transparent Lock by Gary Foshee. The object is just to remove the clasp.  Not very hard, but extremely well made.

The second puzzle is called Larva and the object is to slide the metal pieces around so that the coin can drop off. Robrecht Louage.  Not too hard, but there's a nice surprise.

MoYu is a twisty puzzle that's actually 2 puzzles in one.  The circles - I first saw that feature in Smart Alex from 25 years ago.  Otherwise, it's not that hard.

Cast Keyhole - Hanayama Metal Puzzle comes from Vesa Timonen. I've taken them apart but haven't restored it yet.  Vesa has produced some very cool mechanical puzzles in the past.
